THE INJURY PREVENTION TRAINING SYSTEM

 

The goal of the system is to empower a NON-INJURED ATHLETE with the knowledge on how to continue to prevent and avoid injury The training system includes education on: Body Maintenance Training and Sport Specific Movement Skills to optimize performance. 

PARTS OF THE INTEGRATED APPROACH

FOUNDATIONAL MOVEMENT 
THERAPY

Foundational Movement Therapy (FMT) is a therapy that gets to the root cause of injury or pain. This is accomplished by assessing a clients postural misalignments and structural imbalances and then correcting them using therapeutic exercises and adjustments to everyday movement patterns such as walking, standing, sitting, sleeping and sport specific movements.

 

FASCIAL STRETCHING
THERAPY

Facial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a modified proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PnF) based client assisted flexibility system. FST combines innovative, passive, active and assisted mobility and stretching movement patterns. Therapists use hands on direct techniques on a table with stabilization straps to assess and remove restrictions to movement within joints, muscles, fascia and the nervous system.

 

BODY MAINTENANCE TRAINING

Is an injury prevention and treatment-based session that teaches unique stretching and foam rolling techniques. This Body Maintenance Training system was initially created from necessity to eliminate Coach Mike’s personal injuries but quickly became a powerful tool to educate all of his athletes on injury prevention.

SPORT SPECIFIC FOUNDATIONAL
MOVEMENT SKILLS

Although there is not one right running technique there are things that a runner can do to put him or herself in harms way. A running analysis takes a runner from where they are and eliminates injury causing habits and inefficiencies by doing simple modifications to running posture, cadence and foot strike. All of this while under the watchful eye of an experienced Performance Coach that specializes in biomechanical analysis and structural imbalances.

4 Goals of the Injury Prevention Training System

GOAL #1

Assess and remove muscle imbalance & impingement   

You will learn about the impingements ‘blocks’ that cause you pain and how to prevent them from inhibiting your day to day movement.

 

GOAL #2

Assess & improve mobility and flexibility

You will learn what your specific mobility and flexibility issues are and how to improve them for enhanced sport performance. 

GOAL #3

Assess & enhance Foundational Movement Skills 

You will learn your inefficient, day to movement patterns, how they are impacting your sport performance and how to improve them. 

GOAL #4

Assess & train new stability & strength patterns

You will learn your stability and strength imbalances, how they are impacting your sport specific performance and how to correct them.

INJURY PREVENTION TRAINING APPOINTMENT GOALS

Assess and Remove Muscle Imbalance & Impingement

Assessment 

  1. Discussion – athlete training & injury history
  2. Standing assessment – Postural + muscle imbalances + impingements
  3. Walking assessment – Analyze gait + muscle imbalances

Approximately 30 mins

Treatment

  1. 60 min combined FMT + FST treatment including:
  • The use of FMT therapeutic exercises to correct structural imbalances and postural misalignments
  • A hands on FST session targeting specific muscle groups

Approximately 75 mins

Injury Prevention Plan

  1. Discuss a plan for moving forward (future appointments + next steps)
  2. A take away prescription including videos or pictures of FMT therapeutic exercises and stretches will be provided (emailed same day)

Approximately 15 mins

Assess & Improve Mobility and Flexibility

Assessment

  1. Discussion – check-in and update since last appointment
  2. Standing assessment – re-assess posture and muscle balance
  3. Walking assessment – re-analyze gait + muscle imbalances
  4. Discuss best steps and move into treatment

Approximately 15 mins

Treatment

  1. Combined FMT + FST treatment including:
  • The use of FMT therapeutic exercises to correct structural imbalances and postural misalignments
  • A hands on FST session targeting specific muscle groups

Approximately 60-75 mins

Injury Prevention Plan

  1. Body Maintenance Training session teaching stretching and foam rolling techniques
  2. Discuss a plan for moving forward (future appointments + next steps)
  3. A take away prescription including videos or pictures of FMT therapeutic exercises and stretches will be provided (emailed same day)

Assess & Enhance Foundational Movement Skills

Assessment

  1. Discussion – check-in and update since last appointment

  4. Discuss best steps and move into treatment

Sport Specific Foundational
Movement Skills

Run Analysis:

  1. Indoor / outdoor or treadmill analysis 
  2. Assessing postural and structural muscle imbalance that will cause injury
  3. Assessing and correcting running posture
  4. Assessing and correcting cadence, foot strike and eliminating unnecessary impact
  5. Assessing and correcting arm and body positioning
  6. Uphill and downhill technique assessment

Approximately 90 mins

Injury Prevention Plan

  1. Discuss a plan for moving forward (future appointments + next steps)
  2. Take away slow motion video analysis of both old and new running technique
  3. Take away techniques and drills for future reference while running
  4. A one month running training program provided on Training Peaks including the appropriate progressions to adapt to the new running technique

ATHLETE INJURY PREVENTION
TRAINING PACKAGES

SUMMIT

7 treatment & training hours including:

  • Assess and remove muscle imbalance & impingement during a 2 hour assessment + treatment
  • Assess & improve mobility and flexibility during a 2 hour Body Maintenance Training Session
  • Assess & enhance sport specific Foundational Movement Skills during a 1.5 hour swimming, biking or running analysis 
  • Assess & train new stability & strength patterns during a 1.5 hour Functional Movement Screen session

5.5 treatment hours including:
